Private Equity

In the wake of the 2020 global pandemic businesses – large and small –  experienced an immense undertaking of survival. Unfortunately many were not able to weather the lockdowns, supply chain constraints, declining sales, and ultimately lost revenue. Those that survived were able to pivot, adapt, and eventually thrive in the growing digital economy.

To continue thriving these businesses, and many others, need the support of outside investors. In many cases these businesses need resources for expansion, meeting purchase orders, acquiring competitors, and more.

At Different Investments™ we help clients evaluate equity investment opportunities in new business ventures. When clients are presented with new opportunities they can rely on our team to provide an independent and objective analysis before making any investment.

Additionally, sponsors (business ventures) approach our firm requesting an independent evaluation of their business. In this evaluation our team will provide the sponsor with an assessment outlining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and funding requirements to meet the sponsor’s desired result.

Private Debt

While businesses prefer to sell equity in their firm to raise capital, equity may not be the best investment opportunity for an investor. In some cases, based on the potential risk associated with the investment, the investor is better served offering debt as an alternative. Offering private debt to fund business ventures allows the investor an opportunity to receive their initial investment back plus a return on their initial investment.

At Different Investments™ we help clients evaluate equity investment opportunities in new business ventures. Unfortunately equity may not always be an appropriate fit for the client’s investment goals. In situations like this our team reviews debt opportunities, which can include convertible debt strategies, in order to help the client achieve their desired intent of supporting a business. Clients can confidently rely on our team to provide an independent and objective analysis before making any investment.

Additionally, sponsors (business ventures) approach our firm requesting an independent evaluation of their business. In this evaluation our team will provide the sponsor with an assessment outlining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and funding requirements to meet the sponsor’s desired result.

Hedge Funds

In the ongoing saga between mainstream and Wall Street hedge funds continue to capture headlines. Yet in many cases hedge funds are not “evil”. While they lack certain regulatory constraints they are similar to other pooled investment vehicles. Hedge funds invest in companies, use proprietary trading strategies, and seek out superior returns.

When clients are presented with opportunities to invest in hedge funds they need to be very careful. Since many hedge funds use complex trading strategies, are not bound by mutual fund or exchange traded fund constraints, and operate under broader rules investing in them can come at an increased risk. However, with an increased risk comes the potential for a higher reward – a reward than can be enticing if not fully understood. Our team will review the offering documents, speak with the portfolio manager, and assess their trading strategy before preparing an independent evaluation for our client. The client can then determine if the investment opportunity meets their desired risk and reward criteria.

Sponsors of hedge funds can approach our firm if they are interested in receiving an independent analysis of their investment strategy or are looking to raise funds from Accredited Investors. As we are fiduciaries to all existing clients we reserve the right not to solicit any investment opportunity we do not feel meets our client’s investment objectives.

Real Estate

Real estate investing has been a cornerstone of America since it originally began. Whether it was west ward expansion or city sky scrapers, Americans have been investing in real estate for a very long time. Unfortunately, with the number of investors on the climb over the last two decades many “newer” investors have found themselves making poor investments. To better understand when to make an investment and when to liquidate an investment an investor needs to understand how to calculate the return on investment, return on equity, realized depreciation, tax savings, and much more.

Whether it is commercial or residential real estate investors can use real estate as a mechanism to create ongoing cash flow and capital appreciation with little, to no, personal investment. To do this the investor needs to understand when to purchase real estate, the renovation / repair costs, income or capital appreciation potential, and the long term affects / benefits of holding real estate. Additionally, the investor needs to understand the associated risk of real estate before making an investment. Clients who hire Different Investments™ can rely on a comprehensive and independent evaluation of the proposed project prior to making any investment.

Sponsors of real estate projects can approach our firm if they are interested in receiving an independent analysis of their project or are looking to raise funds from Accredited Investors. As we are fiduciaries to all existing clients we reserve the right not to solicit any investment opportunity we do not feel meets our client’s investment objectives.

Energy: Oil & Gas and Clean

At Different Investments we work closely with our clients to understand the opportunities and risks of investing in volatile industries like energy. We understand there will always be a need for energy but that does not mean clients should take unnecessary risks. We believe working with reputable companies and investing in current technologies is vitally important when trying to avoid making poor investment decisions. When a client requests an analysis of an energy investment we will complete a thorough assessment outlining the risks to the client, the environment, and others that may be present in order for the client to determine if that investment is appropriate for them.

Sponsors of energy projects can approach our firm if they are interested in receiving an independent analysis of their project or are looking to raise funds from Accredited Investors. As we are fiduciaries to all existing clients we reserve the right not to solicit any investment opportunity we do not feel meets our client’s investment objectives.
